Any time you do something new, there is always a certain amount of trepidation as to how it will be received. Here is some of the early feedback that DCIG has received so far in response to the Midrange Array Buyer’s Guide from others in the storage industry who have had a chance to look at it under NDA:
One storage architect who I know at a Fortune 500 pharmaceuticals company wrote me back and said:
“I can see where the DCIG Midrange Array Buyers Guide will allow vendors to understand where they excel and
where they may need a bit more polish on their hardware and software features.
However, more importantly it can provide an end-user with a great and ready made
RFI/RFE research tool/guide when evaluating Midrange Storage.”
Another individual who I know who handles marketing for a number of storage companies that do NOT offer midrange arrays but is familiar with the space just wrote back and said, “WOW. COOLEST THING I’VE EVER SEEN!!!”
The reaction of most midrange array storage providers who have seen snippets of the Buyer’s Guide have had reactions that have fallen into one or more of the following:
- This type of guide is long overdue
- Why weren’t our models number one?
- Users should have rated the features midrange arrays the same way we rate midrange arrays
- Can we have one of these Buyer’s Guides for free?
(BTW – the word that I believe DCIG is looking for in response to that last question is, uh, No. Here’s the link to find out how to obtain one.)
