Independent analyst firm, Verdantix, published a report last week discussing the energy-saving benefits of cloud computing. The report, titled “Cloud Computing: The IT Solution for the 21st Century,” talks about how businesses can utilize the cloud to reduce their carbon footprints and save themselves considerable amounts of money in energy consumption.
The report estimates that large U.S. firms with annual revenues exceeding $1 billion will be able to enjoy energy savings up to $12.3 billion over the next 10 years. Additionally, those utilizing cloud computing can help cut up to 85.7 million metric tons of CO2 every year by 2020.
“By transitioning some IT applications to the cloud, large firms can achieve substantial financial benefits and add impetus to corporate sustainability commitments to cut back on CO2 emissions,” said Stuart Neumann, Verdantix senior manager and research lead.
