The Data Center Intelligence Group (DCIG) is updating its research into hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) solutions. HCI vendors are invited to participate in the survey research taking place through December 21st, 2022.
This week I had the privilege of attending SC22, the supercomputing conference, in Dallas, TX. Supercomputing centers are early adopters of technologies that will soon be common in most data centers. Thus, the sessions I attended, the attendees I spoke with, and the solutions on display in the exhibit hall provided me with an eye-opening glimpse into tomorrow’s data center.
Predictive analytics applied to enterprise storage is delivering a lot of value. Tintri focuses its analytics on optimizing application performance, not break/fix support. This focus is a fundamentally better approach to applying analytics to enterprise storage than many other vendors offer.
In order for organizations to get the benefits of both cloud and on-premises data centers, more implement a hybrid data center. Running their workloads in one or the other or both gives them the choice they seek. In addition to these practical reasons, recent events and trends have reinforced the move to a hybrid data center. However, when adopting a hybrid data center, organizations must examine how well operations such as backup work in it.
DCIG is currently researching enterprise storage as a service, and intends to publish one or more DCIG TOP 5 reports based on this STaaS research.
Every enterprise storage briefing now includes a discussion of infrastructure analytics. For some vendors, this is a relatively new endeavor. Other vendors have woven analytics into the design of their company and products from day one. As companies evaluate enterprise storage offerings, they should pay careful attention to these infrastructure analytics and how they fit with their own needs, abilities, and culture.
Enterprises embracing digital transformation require much more flexible and responsive data center infrastructures. Happily, advances in integrating storage management into the broader data center ecosystem are taking hold. As a result, enterprise storage management is becoming much more integrated into the overall data center management environment.
Every year at the Flash Memory Summit held in Santa Clara, CA, attendees get a firsthand look at the technologies that will impact the next generation of storage. This year many of the innovations centered on forthcoming interconnects that will better deliver on the performance that flash offers today. Here are DCIG’s main takeaways from this year’s event.
