OMAHA, Neb., (August 18, 2022) – DCIG is pleased to recognize HYCU Protégé for AWS as a DCIG TOP 5 solution in the forthcoming 2022-23 DCIG TOP 5 AWS Cloud Backup Solution Large Enterprise Edition report. That report is based on DCIG’s independent research into the rapidly maturing Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud marketplace.
AWS Maintains Its Cloud Leadership Position
The more things change, the more they stay the same. That French proverb still applies even today as enterprises continue their journey into the cloud. Despite large enterprises having multiple general-purpose cloud providers from which to choose, many still prefer Amazon Web Services (AWS).
On a broad scale, enterprise spending on cloud infrastructure continues to experience double digit growth. Between 2021 and 2022, spending in the overall cloud market grew by 29 percent.
Of the monies spent on cloud infrastructure, a recent survey of cloud market spending found AWS remained the cloud market leader with 34 percent market share. Equally notable, AWS grew its market share one percent quarter over quarter even as its competitors declined or stayed the same. Yet as large enterprises host more applications, data, and workloads in AWS, they must also take steps to protect them.
DCIG Ranks HYCU Protégé for AWS as a TOP 5 AWS Cloud Backup Solution for Large Enterprises
DCIG identified over 30 solutions in the marketplace that offer backup for AWS. Of these, DCIG identified and classified fifteen of them as meeting DCIG’s definition of a large enterprise AWS cloud backup solution. Upon DCIG’s completion of reviewing these 15 large enterprise AWS cloud backup solutions, DCIG ranks HYCU Protégé for AWS as a TOP 5 solution.
HYCU Protégé for AWS became generally available as an AWS backup offering in 2022. While new to AWS, HYCU already provides Protégé as a cloud-native backup software-as-a-service (SaaS) in multiple other clouds. These clouds include Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Nutanix, and VMware. Delivered this way, HYCU Protégé for AWS utilizes each cloud’s available APIs, management interfaces, and resources to perform and manage cloud backup.
HYCU carried this cloud-native design methodology forward when it introduced HYCU Protégé for AWS. It simultaneously introduced many of the same robust cloud backup features that it already offers for other platforms. These feature set has resulted in HYCU previously earning DCIG TOP 5 awards for Microsoft Azure and the Google Cloud Platform.
Specific features that HYCU Protégé offers to differentiate itself from other large enterprise AWS cloud backup solutions include:
- Immediate access to HYCU Protégé through the AWS Marketplace. Delivered as a backup SaaS, large enterprises may subscribe to and immediately start using HYCU Protégé to perform backups. HYCU manages the ongoing maintenance and upkeep of its Protégé software and placement of backups. Enterprises may refine backup placement by defining application and data recovery times. Once defined, Protege internally creates policies to satisfy them. It places backups on AWS cloud storage tiers to control storage costs while still meeting these defined RPOs and RTOs.
- Indefinitely protects up to 1 TB of data at no charge without obligation. Every enterprise, regardless of its size, ideally needs to evaluate an offering in production before implementing it more broadly. HYCU helps enterprises down this path by indefinitely protecting up to 1 TB of data for free. This option frees enterprises to subscribe to HYCU, become familiar with HYCU Protégé for AWS, and see how it works without obligation.
- Manage HYCU Protégé as any other AWS resource. As enterprises adopt the cloud, many want to manage backup like other cloud resources, such as compute and storage. HYCU Protégé for AWS provides them this option due to its integration with AWS. HYCU passes along any incurred charges as part of the AWS bill. They may access and manage HYCU Protégé for AWS through the AWS management console. This, in turn, provides single sign-on capabilities and automatic inheritance of AWS security policies.
“HYCU continues to impress with its ability to successfully introduce its HYCU Protégé backup solution into new general-purpose clouds, such as AWS,” said Jerome Wendt, President and Founder of DCIG. LLC. “HYCU again demonstrates its understanding of cloud design principles in HYCU Protégé for AWS. It already delivers Protégé in AWS as a full-featured backup solution worthy of consideration by any large enterprises.”
