Businesses aren’t the only ones looking to the cloud for protection against data loss.

Medical RecordsJust last month, a data breach involving the medical records of almost 5 million active and retired military personnel happened under the watch of military healthcare provider Tricare. Although no financial information was included in the breach, social security numbers as well as contact information of the patients were included in the theft, which occurred in an employee’s car in San Antonio, TX. Tricare spokesmen have reassured victims of the data breach that their records were partially encrypted and required sophisticated technology to retrieve the data and interpret the files and, therefore, the likelihood of dissemination of patient information was low.

While data breaches are not necessarily uncommon in the IT world, newer, more sophisticated technologies are forcing IT managers to re-think their data protection strategies and expect more from providers. Healthcare and even governmental entities are looking more and more toward cloud-based online data backup solutions to prevent data loss.

Just last week, Zetta announced that the town of Dedham, Massachusetts is now relying on ZettaMirror as part of its data protection and disaster recovery strategy. “It took less than a minute to install a ZettaMirror agent, and everything showed up live,” said Christopher Pohl, assistant director of technology for Dedham. “Zetta was very low impact to operations and very low impact to our bandwidth. We are planning to push out everything to Zetta.” To learn more about how Zetta helped simplify Dedham’s data security plans, read the full case study.
